New Years Celebration in the Bronx

New York on New Years Eve is definitely something to be experienced. Although the concentrated area is one that millions have claimed standing rights to, it is truly one of the most unique trips possible—regardless of how long it takes you to get there.  The “bow tie” area in the heart of Manhattan, overflowing with people and over-the-top energy, is not your ordinary party in the streets. If you find yourself further North in the Bronx, you will find a similar atmosphere. The events mimic the past and most of our lives: each celebration on the eve of a New Year in New York is different than the one before, and there is no mistaking or confusing one for the other.

The “City that Doesn’t Sleep” also doesn’t waste any time when it comes to partying. Times Square is the biggest draw to the hundreds of thousands that clamor in anticipation of a New Year begin gathering in the afternoon of December 31st, with the idea of getting close to the stage that the famous Waterford Crystal Ball lingers above. But many will tell you it’s all hype. Like many things that are highly marked, New Years Eve can seem anticlimactic. We have all had the years, or seconds into a new one, where we think “that was it?” agreeing in the overrated-ness that we sum the holiday up to. While it is of course a possibility at the Bronx New Years celebrations, it isn’t probable. If you want to avoid the cliché or the exaggerated, skip Times Square perhaps, but don’t skip New York.

After the ball is dropped and the million or so depart the Square, there is still an important decision to be made: where will the rest of the night be experienced? Or if you are opting out of the event all together, where will you spend the holiday? Lucky for you in the Bronx, you are never more than ten feet from a party. Just a short subway ride can have you at the world’s hottest clubs, lounges, bars, and venues before anyone else. There are so many things to do in the City that your only predicament might be which to choose! To see a complete list of the events and festivities going on in both the Bronx and Manhattan, visit NewYearsEve.com; you can get discounted tickets and inside descriptions on everything from the elite hideouts of the famous to dive bars serving nothing but beer on tap and rock music.

The best known New Years Eve celebrations in NY have become international customs. Even a couple miles north from the happenings in Times Square in the Bronx, people party with enough enthusiasm to rival the million standing below the ball. Many promise there is no other place in the world that is quite the same, and are rarely challenged. New Years Eve in NY is the unique pairing of a both a powerful energy and city that were made for each other.

New Years Celebration in Austin

To be one of the largest cities in Texas says a lot. Austin not only boasts that title, as well as being the State Capital, but also rights as the one of the “Top 25 US Arts Destinations.” The holiday season is one of the most anticipated in the city, with Austin’s varied and exciting spirit becoming enhanced by the cheer that an incoming year brings. With the festivities starting right after Thanksgiving and lasting the entire month of December, it is almost an impossibility not to take part.

Austin, as big as it is, is really a neighborhood with as much unity and sense of community to fill the entire state of Texas. On an important holiday such as New Years, events for everyone to participate in are imperative to the family-friendly city. With celebrations such as First Night Austin, the Tree Lighting at the State Capital, and plenty of shows and performances suitable for all ages, it’s a perfect city to spend the holiday in. Many families find themselves traveling to Austin from all parts of the United States and beyond during New Years; even one memorable year is enough to convince you to return.

If you are not in Austin for the G-rated fun, there are still ample opportunities for you to ring in the New Year. Men’s Journal named it the “#1 Best Nightlife City” and the action never slow down.  One of the most popular and frequented spots is Sixth Street, Austin’s own version of Bourbon Street. Lined with everything that defines nightlife (dance clubs, lounges, bars, restaurants and pool halls all draw crowds from one street), Sixth caters to every style and taste. The famous melting pot of Central Texas has establishments ranging from the trendy where the young gyrate among top 40 hits, to country-western sports bars only playing Texan games and events. On New Years Eve, the street floods with revelers from all over, but there is no separation—everyone joins in the celebration. You can purchase tickets to the big parties and clubs for the NYE celebrations in advance from websites such as NewYearsEve.com, but don’t hesitate, because they certainly go fast!

The calendar is as full on New Years Eve as Austin is itself. With so many opportunities to have a good time and start 2008 off differently than 2007, your best bet is to start planning early.  Hotels, parties, restaurants, and other affairs are always sold out, booked, and taken with excited NYE anticipators well before you’d think—but hopefully not before you get a chance to enjoy it all too
